The AA has revealed its selection for the best 550 pubs in the UK, with just 16 Kent establishments making the cut. We are thrilled to announce that The Bull is one of the 16 best pubs in Kent. We were selected for the quality of our cuisine and drinks selection, which everyone loves!

 

About The Pub Guide 2020

The AA Guide is an annual publication which includes the country’s best pubs, selected for their atmosphere, serving delicious food, good beer and ales. It has been the go-to source for the best pubs in the UK for over a century.

At the start of July, the 21st edition of the guide hit shelves. It contains 2,000 traditional countryside inns, taverns and foodie destinations.

Highlighted ‘Pick of the Pubs’ entries show the best AA-recommended pubs. The AA’s expert inspectors, editorial team, and reader suggestions select these pubs.

 

Who is in the guide?

The AA makes their selection by seeking out pubs that are worth making a detour for. These ‘destination’ pubs are where publicans show real enthusiasm for their trade, offering a good selection of well-kept drinks and great food.

Some of the pubs are particularly special, and The AA have highlighted them as ‘Pick of the Pubs’.

 

‘Pick of the Pubs’ Recommendations

Out of a total 98 regions, Kent ranks eighth highest for the most ‘Pick of the Pubs’. That’s a pretty impressive achievement!

Elsewhere, pubs like Kirkstile Inn in Cockermouth, The Unruly Pig, Bromeswell and The Harwood Arms in Fulham are all recommended, having reputations for excellent food and drink. The Gun in Docklands, Parson Green favourite The White Horse and Highgate pub The Flask were also among those selected.

 

Here’s some of what the AA Pub Guide 2020 has to say about The Bull

“World War II pilots once relaxed in this 14th century coaching inn – stamps on the restaurant ceiling mark downed German planes. These days, guest ales from microbreweries such as Old Dairy are supported by a vast wine list offering 23 by the glass. A smoker (imported from Texas) and Big Green Egg BBQ are the workhorses of the kitchen.”
