The Renovation of The Bull Courtyard

The Veranda

Posted in October 2021

It’s a hidden surprise you wouldn’t expect: the new Glasshouse behind the splendid 14th century Grade II-listed Bull Hotel is an innovative and elegant space in an intimate scale.

The Courtyard Glasshouse

The New Glasshouse

At the rear of the hotel in the courtyard, a 126m2 sleek glass structure purposely designed for wedding receptions is a bold addition to the traditional inn, blending old and new.

Expect to see a spectacular, retractable domed roof, south facing sliding glass doors to catch the sun – a space flooded with natural light. It is an elegant, modern 100-day-guest wedding venue full of sleek glass and cool metallics.

Following one of the modern architectural principles that materials ought not to be hidden, but instead to be the focus of attention as part of the overall look of the structure, The Glasshouse is an inspiring space which provides a lasting impact on guests’ memories of the wedding.

Your something old, something new

Expanding the existing capacity to 100 guests, the merging between the new contemporary Glasshouse, the traditional Buttery and the picturesque Veranda will transform the whole wedding experience at The Bull courtyard.

The structural contrast between The Glasshouse, The Buttery and The Veranda dramatically highlights and enhances the difference in style, era and materials used in each building.

This gorgeous courtyard offers a variety of blank canvas spaces and an abundance of natural light where couples can showcase the elegance and the freshness of something new and unique to achieve their wow factor wedding day when the wedding theme will take centre stage.

The Buttery

Facing The Glasshouse, sits the historic and timeless Buttery.

Originally, the 16th century oak-beamed barn was used as a large pantry to stock food, butts of beer and wine for the hotel. More recently, The Buttery has been holding memorable wedding ceremonies.

Built using traditional methods and materials such as bricks, mortar, wood and stones, the straight lines and regular rectangular shape of The Buttery has its own charm which effortlessly delights every couple.

Now instantly accentuated by the ultracontemporary domed glass structure, the modesty and dignity of the Buttery is in perfect harmony with The Glasshouse and the final result is an awe-inspiring wedding venue.

The Veranda

The Veranda

Featuring a stunning ancient stone wall covered with a lush fern backdrop, The Veranda adds another dimension to the courtyard as a heated outdoor space for entertaining wedding guests with drinks and canapés amongst garden sofas.

The Veranda is an evergreen escape that thrives all year round, couples already have a huge head start when it comes to creating an enchanting backdrop for their outdoor ceremony or an alfresco smokehouse feast.

The Courtyard Deck

Another beneficial design choice was the continuation of the stunning and functional flooring which gives the column-free courtyard plenty of room for guests’ entertainment being festival food stalls, outdoor games, drinks receptions, barbecues or sitting lounges.

The modern environment-friendly material allows the three buildings to seamlessly connect as well as to spread into a courtyard area where spectacular eye-catching reception entrances and group pictures are staged.

The Glasshouse Venue

A ‘get-away-from-it-all’ venue

The three spaces in this quaint courtyard are complemented by the fully stocked bar with an incredible cocktail menu and craft beer list; on-site catering renowned for its 2AA Rosettes and a listing in The Michelin Guide; plus boutique accommodation with award winning full English breakfast.

The Bull Hotel is a one-stop wedding venue offering couples and guests all they need for the big day including a choice of licensed venues, full catering, 11 ensuite bedrooms and dedicated wedding team.
