Situated in the historic village of Wrotham, near Sevenoaks and Maidstone, this 600-year old coaching inn boasts charm and character. The Bull is a licensed wedding venue and can hold your wedding in the 14th century Buttery function room for the civil ceremony, wedding breakfast, reception and party.
THE BUTTERY WEDDING VENUE
Our licensed room for civil ceremonies is called The Buttery.
• A historic barn-style building that can accommodate the wedding ceremony, wedding breakfast and reception.
• A blank canvas venue space with a rustic charm, beautiful exposed beams, high ceilings and stone walls.
• French doors open to a spacious courtyard for alfresco reception drinks with ample space for a marquee.
• Lush ferns on the ancient courtyard walls create a thematic backdrop.
• A setting lending itself to many different decorative themes. These include a boho chic theme, twilight wedding or simply classic and traditional. Current wedding trends also complement the rustic character with decorative foliage, winter wonderlands and summer BBQ’s.
WHY IS THE BUTTERY DIFFERENT?
With such a broad spectrum of venues from those with partition walls and tiled suspended ceilings to those with glamorously decorated rooms, chandeliers and statement wall papers; here at The Bull we have a blank canvas offering our couples the freedom to reflect their style and flair to dress and decorate the venue according to their own personal style and vision.
For this reason, couples fall in love with The Buttery.
The Buttery flows out onto the veranda and courtyard where guests can enjoy reception drinks after the ceremony with a stunning backdrop ideal for photographs. The versatile courtyard space outside allows for alfresco reception drinks in the Summer months and plenty of room for a marquee in the Winter months.
Flexibility
No two weddings at The Bull fit the same mould and we like to embrace all the details that we know are so important to our couples. The nature of the venue and the fact that we allow a whole weekend to focus on one wedding alone, encourages our couples to design the wedding day they truly desire.

At The Bull, the wedding coordinators make a point of adjusting and reworking the mould every time, to ensure that all the elements that make each day special and individual are accommodated. Couples will be able to decide on menu choices, suppliers, payments, decorations, entertainment… the list is endless!
Our Food
Food & drink is one of our biggest passions at The Bull.
We are immensely proud our award-winning quality wedding food. We embrace local suppliers and seasonal flavour within our outstanding wedding breakfast menu and for those looking for a more relaxed, informal affair, we offer a unique signature smokehouse feast alternative.
Every single dish is cooked in our kitchen, from scratch, by our own team of talented chefs.
We believe wedding food should set a precedent for consistency, beautiful presentation and deliciousness. The kitchen team aim is to serve up dishes which will fill up the room with that comforting smell of fresh cooking and put family and friends at ease by catering for all those special dietary requests.
The smokehouse feast option becomes a feature of the wedding day, with a dedicated chef cooking on the BBQ in front of the guests. All our meat is smoked on site, in our imported Texan smoker (the only one in Kent), guaranteeing that authentic flavour and smell, adding to the ambience of the big day.
The Rooms
The 11-ensuite rooms at The Bull are full of character and old-world charm and steeped in history. Each room is beautifully decorated with Laura Ashley furnishing and interior design and recently renovated to incorporate all the modern facilities, with high end linens and quality toiletries.
The couple will enjoy their wedding night in the bridal suite. This spacious suite creates the perfect space for the bridal party to get ready before the wedding and prepare for the special day ahead.
Wedding guests can party then stay overnight to wake-up and enjoy a cooked to order full English breakfast together in the morning.

Our packages are designed to be affordable and achievable without compromising on quality.
We fully understand what saving and budgeting for a wedding entails and want to relieve the stress as much as possible with no big up-front costs and individualised payment plans to help spread the cost.
There are 2 options of wedding packages The Traditional Buttery Wedding and The Festival Twilight Wedding. We also offer the full exclusivity use of The Bull Hotel when the whole hotel will be closed to the public during your wedding day.

Our wedding was held at The Bull in Summer 2019 and we had an amazing day. Leigh Anne couldn’t do enough for us in the run up to our day and on the day itself! We had to tweak the menu and drinks on offer due to dietary requirements but this was never an issue, she also helped us to arrange our seating plan and gave us numerous ideas for decoration. On the day Leigh Anne helped the groomsmen with their button holes, check on us ladies throughout the morning, helped turn the room around between the ceremony, wedding breakfast and the evening reception and just helped the day run so smooth. There are plenty of beautiful, quaint places for photos to be taken in and around The Bull and the food on offer is absolutely delicious, such big portions too! We are so happy we found this incredible venue and recommend it to anyone thinking of tying the knot. We’ll be back soon for another meal and a cosy up in front of the fireplace! We settled on the Bull for our wedding venue after visiting on a ‘wedding open day’. This is where we first met Leigh Anne & Elaine (both are TOTAL stars!). We settled on the venue quite quickly, the overall ‘cosy’ feel of The Buttery, the previous reviews, the food (oh my goodness ……. the food!) all gave us the feeling that this was the place for us – and how right we were. Leigh Anne and Elaine handled everything in the run up to the day with total professionalism and a very reassuring calmness. Following our ‘taster meal’ we opted for the smokehouse menu – we still have people telling us just how good it was a month later! Come the day itself Elaine and Co had dressed The Buttery which looked beautiful and any concerns we had about the changes from wedding service setting to dining hall to evening function room became a distant memory, we still truly don’t know how Elaine and her team did it so well in such a short time. We had 40 family and friends during the day and another 50 in the evening, The Buttery was the perfect size and setting for every aspect of the day. I can’t sing any louder about the whole package! We used Nicola Dawson as our photographer and Phillip Harvey (20:20 Sounds) for the evening disco. Both were recommended by The Bull at the open days. Nicola is fantastic and Phil had the whole place jumping for the duration of the party in the evening! If you want somewhere charming, cosy and a little different, for your wedding day, book The Bull, sit back and relax – you’ll be in VERY good hands!! We both really do wish we could do it all over again!

They were able to bring everything we envisioned to reality and were so helpful during the process of planning til our wedding day. It is clear the Hotel operates like a well-oiled machine. The rooms at the hotel were immaculate and everyone who stayed had a good night’s sleep. We were looking for a venue that allowed us to be ourselves in our wedding day. A humanist ceremony with no hymns no prayers no preacher and this venue allowed us and our imaginations run wild. With help from Holly and her mother at hello@locatetocreate.com we dressed the hall as a 1920 peaky blinder Gatsby theme including our humanist celebrant. Elaine controlled our music for the day with Andy . The food for the day was locally sourced from Kent and organic. The children had their own table with their own menu and drinks. The whole theme made for very special personal photos. In my hotel room we had the hairdresser and the make up artists for myself and the bridesmaids. We hired most of the rooms in the hotel allowing room for everyone to get dressed and prepare for the wedding. The day was very personal unique and memorable. We had 42 guest as we wanted a small intimate wedding but I felt special throughout and Andy was allowed to be himself with very few restrictions.

One of the main reasons we chose The Bull was the food. Every person we have spoken to has commented on the superb quality and generous portion sizes.
